If you love time travel, you are going to absolutely love this book! An amazing 5 Star read. The Pocket Watch by Cici Giltenan is a new release and one that is sure to be a bestseller!

This is a story about a young woman by the name of Maggie Mitchell who has had one love her whole life, he was her best friend throughout life and they had plans to marry after college. However, once she and Elliot went off to college he fell for another and only wanted Maggie as his friend. It’s on the day of Elliot’s wedding that we see Maggie crying, heartbroken when an older lady by the name of Gertrude happens upon the sad girl. Gertrude and Maggie chat a bit and Maggie expresses to Gertrude how she wishes she could just have another person’s life for a time. To her surprise, Gertrude offers her this chance. However, Maggie is skeptical but accepts the pocket watch.

Maggie follows the instructions given to her by Gertrude, thinking the lady had lost her mind and was suffering some form of mental illness. However, to Maggie’s surprise she instantly wakes up to find herself upon a horse and racing at such a fast pace. She’d never been on a horse before and out of sheer fright she pulls on the reigns harshly only to spook the horse and be thrown harshly to the ground. She looks up to see the most beautiful man she’d ever laid eyes on, only he’s as angry as an ol’ boar and later she learns why.

Maggie comes to learn she’s no longer Maggie Mitchell but Margaret who is a very harsh and unkind woman, not only is she bitter and nasty, she’s also betrothed to the angry man whose name is Logan, a highland warrior from clan Carr. After her fall, Maggie had suffered some broken ribs and also due to her lack of knowledge of the clan and her whereabouts she claims memory loss. Through a series of events, Logan and Maggie begin to fall in love and Maggie has to make up her mind whether to stay or go back home. She knows, on the 60th day she will be stuck in the past forever if she does not return home. Will Maggie decide to remain and become the Margaret “Maggie” that Logan so desires or will she return to her own time?

I absolutely loved the story and read it in one day, I couldn’t put it down. Giltenan’s writing skills and telling of the tale is impeccable. She takes the reader on quite a journey through time and leaves them wondering all the while as she weaves her tale of twists and turns. I instantly fell in love with Maggie and wanted her to remain with Logan in the 13th century. I will not spoil it and tell you what happens. It’s so easy to like Logan and Maggie, for these characters are so full of passion and such vivid personalities. Giltenan’s writing is historically accurate as well as creative and imaginative, the scenery she shows makes the reader feel as if they are right there in the medieval era. This was truly a masterpiece and I hope this will turn into a series for I’d love to read more! I highly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of historical romance and especially time travel.
